There are a few things in life that bring us as much salvation as the little things. Yes the huge moments like school plays, losing a tooth and those first steps are monumental, sometimes less is more. So you see here a picture of some very tiny fingers with grossly overgrown nails. This is nothing more than a testament to mommy/daddy are too busy to notice their child turning into an unkempt savage. So upon seeing this, I ran for my purse where I keep an emergency pair of child safe nail clippers that I stow away just for these occasions. (We were heading out & there was no time to waste) I have trained the children well and they patiently sit still in my lap while I clip away all 10 fingernails in less than 5 minutes. And oh the joy it brings! The hand below looks fresh and new and as the child told me after the short ordeal, "I can really feel things now!". Love it.
After. Sun was shining on the clipped hand!
I know it sounds nuts but in those 5 minutes I was able to connect with my child and know that I was directly contributing to his well being. I am a confirmed germabphobe and am fully aware that longer nails harness more germs so I took action to prevent future sickness but I was still frustrated that I hadn't noticed it sooner. We are together all of the time and where was I? The nails are like clockwork growing with crazy speed and I should know that my child needs to be groomed. Yes, this seriously all ran through my head. I am a mother and this is what it does to you. The upside is that it only took a few short minutes to turn it all around. This is often the case with many things in life. A quick walk, a few deep breaths or a big gulp of water have some pretty powerful results in the midst of a hectic day like today and they only take a few minutes to do. Things come up and the small things, like my little monsteresque hand here, go by the wayside. I fixed it in less than 5 minutes I just hope that it in the meantime he didn't scratch the heck out of his siblings too badly. Those things were claws!
